How do you spell the name of the greek goddess of discord? I think Its ares but it's not spelled like that?
She appears in Sinbad Legend of the seven seas and the class of titans.

Eris in Greek Mythology
The Greek goddess Eris was the personification of discord or strife. She appears in Hesiod’s Theogony as the daughter of Nyx (Night).
Eris played a significant part in Greek mythology. One of the most important legends in which she is involved begins with a wedding - the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, to be precise. Apparently, someone forgot to invite the goddess of discord to the festivities. That was the first mistake in a long chain of disastrous events. For Eris simply showed up at the wedding anyway, with mayhem on her mind. When she arrived, the goddess tossed a golden apple into the crowd of famous faces. This tempting apple was tagged with the phrase "to the fairest".

Movies similar to these settings?
I have recently watched The Golden Compass and I have to say that Narnia is better overall.(Except the second one sucked ha ha) Now I’m trying to find some more names to these movies. These are the ones that I have:

The Chronicles of Narnia
The Golden Compass
Stardust
Pan’s Labyrinth
Labyrinth
Goonies
and The never ending story
(Not a fan of the never ending story.. i found it never ending :P)

And I’m also a big Vampire movie fanatic.
(I hate Twilight, so just forget about that.)
I loved, Van Hellsing
Underworld
Lost boys
Interview with a vampire

..Now what are some other good movies that you would swear by? Thanks :)

And please NO twilight answers. Its not my type of movie, and I find them to be whiny teenagers. That should NOT be a vampire movie. it doesn’t make sense.
Thanks :)
yeah.. well it’s not a ‘vampire movie’ I definitely don’t have the tolerance to watch the full movie. I’m not interested in seeing the full thing. I WILL judge it because its just a movie. I don’t have to fall in love with a bunch of actors. I don’t even feel the need to watch the commercials. It looks like it was a waste of money.

*EDIT* They are finally out on DVD! I loved this series of vampire films, very creepy, set in Romania, and Anders Hove makes a brilliant vampire. SUBSPECIES. There are 4 in the series, but I haven’t seen the fourth (yet). I’m putting these in my Netflix queue now that they’re available on DVD. Sweet!

I am *so* not a Twilight fan, but I love vampire films otherwise. You might try VAMPYR, which is very old and nearly silent, though not actually a silent film. NEAR DARK has a nomadic "gang" of vampires that revel in their inhumanity; it’s from the 1980s. THE NIGHT FLIER was an interesting take on the vampire tales; I think it’s from the 1990s. Do not bother with RISE: BLOOD HUNTER - it left me bored and was really muddled, with huge plot holes. SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE was excellent; it was a fictional account of the making of the classic silent vampire flick NOSFERATU, and if you watch Nosferatu afterwards, Shadow of the Vampire gives it a fresh layer. FRIGHT NIGHT is similar to The Lost Boys in that it combines erotic horror with comedy, and it remains one of my favorites. (I’m a Lost Boys fan too, btw. And Interview With the Vampire.)

I know there was a lot of griping about QUEEN OF THE DAMNED and THE LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE, but if you go into them without expecting a masterpiece, the vampire action is quite good. Just don’t compare The Tribe with the original Lost Boys because, naturally, it pales in comparison. No pun intended.

BLADE is quite good, at least the first one. The film BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is very funny, but light on the horror (otherwise, it’s good). Same with ONCE BITTEN and LOVE AT FIRST BITE.

I really liked DRACULA: 2000 for its pure cheesiness factor and buckets o’ blood. And if you don’t mind subtitles, give LET THE RIGHT ONE IN a try (it’s Swedish).

*note* Vampyr is in German, but it has an English language option, I believe. I chose to watch it subtitled so I didn’t have to deal with "dubbing."

Now as for fantasy, try:
LEGEND (not Urban Legend, just Legend)
THE LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM
THE PRINCESS BRIDE
ENCHANTED
THE BEASTMASTER
LADYHAWKE
THE DARK CRYSTAL
THE 13TH WARRIOR
WILLOW
CLASH OF THE TITANS
YOUNG HERCULES
EVER AFTER
DRAGONSLAYER

Hope that helps!

the princess bride
the secret garden
a little princess
dracula dead and loving it [comedy w/ leslie nielsen]

um..thats the only one i can think of cuz you’ve pretty much already said what i had in mind. haha and twilight was indeed cheesy. im a fan of the books but i hate it when the extremes cant grasp the fact that not everyone is gonna like it. good gosh

FANTASY/ADVENTURE:
Krull
Splash
Legend
Ladyhawke
Aquamarine
Dragonheart
Dragonslayer
Dazzle (1999)
The Dark Crystal
Clash of the Titans
Date with an Angel
Jason and the Argonauts
Snow Queen (TV miniseries)
The Odyssey (TV miniseries)
Snow White: A Tale of Terror
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
Arabian Nights (TV miniseries)
Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy
The Seeker: The Dark is Rising
Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger
Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
Gulliver’s Travels (TV miniseries)
Mio min Mio aka Land of Faraway
The 10th Kingdom (TV miniseries)
Voyage of the Unicorn (TV miniseries)
Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959)
Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God

I’ll also mention "Magic Island", which apparently is remembered fondly by many people who came to Y!A Movies to rediscover the title of this movie. I would say it’s on par with "The Goonies".

VAMPIRES:
Vamp
I, Desire
Vampire Circus
Underworld trilogy
The Brides of Dracula
Count Yorga, Vampire
Interview with the Vampire
Dracula: Prince of Darkness
Captain Kronos: Vampire Killer
Dracula Has Risen from the Grave
House of Frankenstein (TV miniseries)
Queen of the Damned~I definitely agree with this one!
The Little Vampire~This really surprised me; I hadn’t expected it to be so enjoyable and clever.
Dance of the Vampires aka The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck
The Night Stalker (1972)~For many years, this held the record as being the most-watched TV movie in history. This and "The Night Strangler" helped launch "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", a short-lived TV series that inspired a more-recent successful series: "The X-Files".

EDIT: I’m a child of the Fifties, so I grew up with fantasy and horror films. Like the poster following me, I’ve seen all of the movies you list and many more, most of them numerous times. All of the movies I’ve listed, I’ve found worthwhile. I hope you enjoy at least some of them, too.
